Swimming excercies almost every muscle in your body. So as you can most likely tell, swimming is one way to loose weight if you are looking in that direction. With the kicking and arm motions together, it forms a desirable work out. Scientists have actually done many tests, and swimming is the most effective way of staying physically fit. If you decide to get a little more serious about swimming, some swimmers add a workout called dry lands. Dry lands is something swimmers do to work on their muscles. They work on mainly the biceps, triceps, legs, and occasionally abs. This helps your overall swimming ability.
Swimming can be addicting, in a fun way. Swimming can be very peaceful and relaxing. It is a very good time to think about things going on in your life. I know you are probably thinking, "Can't you do that all the time?" In my opinion, I think it should be very calm and peaceful when you are thinking. As you glide through the water, it is perfectly silent and you are truly alone with your thoughts. Swimming is a very enjoyable sport that involves competition and dedication if you choose to swim for a team.
There are two different aspects to swimming, swimming competitivley vs. swimming for relaxation, or even with friends. If you choose to swim competitively, there is time before and after practice to socialize, and even when you are waiting on the wall for the next interval. It is always nice to spend time you share a common interest with, you may find this if you swim for a team. If you choose to swim for relaxation or with friends it is always accomadating to know how to swim, whether the water is shallow or deep. For example, if you are tubing at a lake, and you fall off, it is always helpful to know how to swim back to the tube, or even back to the boat laddar.
As you can see, swimming can be a great excerise and an excellent time at the same time. The key to swimming is, find what kind you like best and stick to it. Some forms are not meant for some people. This doesn't mean you should just stop swimming, try other kinds out and you will grow to love it. Swimming can be very serious if you decide you want it to be that way. It all depends on your passion for the sport. The only way you will ever find out, is to try it!
